Kudos to you Art Garfunkel

This was shot a year and a half ago. The camera microphone picked up a lot of extraneous noise, so here is the text for the video:
Hello! Welcome to downtown London. The famous Garfunkels. Garfunkels runs it’s business a little differently than everyone else. What they do is they take everything from Simon’s down the street, repackage it and sell it to make money. Much like Simon and Garfunkel. So, you don’t necessarily have to know how to run a business. You just have to know who to pair up with. Kudos to you Art Garfunkel. A rich man with no talent. But a good voice.

Worst Burger in Europe

Two years ago my pal Jeff and I traveled to Amsterdam. He shouldn’t have ordered the burger but he did. I tasted it and it was pretty bad.

The out take reel

This is the outtake reel. I think it’s actually better than the original. This guy Matt basically was sponsored by Stride gum to dance around the world. Not a bad deal

Demotivation may be the best medicine

Mistakes – It could be that the purpose of your life is only to serve as a warning to others.

One of my favorite sites on the web is Demotivation.com. It’s a great site. In fact, it may be one of the most underrated sites on the web. It’s brilliant humor is second to none especially when it comes to parodying those silly motivation posters seen in many corporate offices.

Daylight Saving Time…
Can we just set it then forget it!

Crazy Clock Game

It’s that time of year again. Time to switch our clocks forward one hour. Except this year we’re making the switch one month earlier. The Energy Policy Act of 2005 extended Daylight Saving Time in an effort to curtail U.S. fuel consumption. Great. How exactly does that work?

To tell you the truth I’m not concerned about why we’re changing it. I’m more concerned with why we keep changing it back and forth. Wouldn’t it be easier to just set it and forget it.

Is there really a reason or are we all just begging for a darker, colder winter? What about the guy who is gassing up his car in the middle of January after work. I betcha he would love to have that extra hour back. It would be a bit warmer because the sun would be out. As soon as the sun goes down, that’s when it starts to feel really cold. Of course now I live in Florida so it doesn’t bother me anymore. I do remember all to well though.

Oh but wait… I just thought of something exciting! We can look forward to that extra hour of sleep when we set it back again the first week of November! Ahhhh that IS something great to look forward to. Even if it wears off in a couple of days. Yes indeed… I guess it’s all about that extra hour of sleep.

Remind me again why we’re changing our clocks?

Failed campaign has Bono seeing (RED)

Mar 7, 2007 Author: stephen chip | Filed under: Advertising, Rants

Bono sees red could be the glasses, right?

The (RED) campaign, which celebrities like Bono, Christy Turlington, Oprah Winfrey, Chris Rock, Steven Spielberg endorsed, has apparantly failed miserably. The campaign’s intent was to raise millions for Aids in Africa. Even myspace.com got in on the act as a media sponsor.

The campaign has only brought in 18 million to date. Seems like a pretty good figure, right? Well compared to the advertising budget of up to 100 million – it turns out it’s not such a good take.

According to Advertising Age:

The disproportionate ratio between the marketing outlay and the money raised is drawing concern among nonprofit watchdogs, cause-marketing experts and even executives in the ad business. It threatens to spur a backlash, not just against the Red campaign — which ambitiously set out to change the cause-marketing model by allowing partners to profit from charity — but also for the brands involved.

Maybe bono has an extra $18 million lying around to match the dismal figure. Buy less crap has put up an outstanding site which mocks our boy Bono and the whole red campaign with a simple message – Buy (Less). Give more.

Right on.

What’s cooler than a drunk frog in a bear suit?

Drunk frog in a bear suitI have a running obsession with vinyl toys. Kidrobot is the best site hands down when it comes to vinyl. (According to me of course) In my office, I have a ton of these silly, goofy, creepy, toys. Why? Good question. I ask myself that quite often.

The other day the CFO, from my company, came into my office and asked “What’s the significance of all those toys”. I didn’t have an answer at first. Then it dawned on me. I asked Phil, the CFO, why he collected baseball cards. I guess the answer is the same – because we like them. He asked me if I had the original boxes. The funny thing is I do. He commented that they would be worth more if I kept the boxes.

What do you call a person that collects items?

A collector

What do the items collect?

Dust

So yeah, the toys collect a ton of dust. It’s really a pain to dust around them. But I like ‘em. The good news is I don’t have much room for them so I haven’t purchased any in awhile.

Except for now. I gotta have the the drunk frog in a bear suit – It’s a classic!

Dirty art… It’s not what you think!

Mona Lisa Dirty Car Art

I’m sure you can remember back at some point in your life either seeing or writing a message on a dirty car window. Maybe something incredibly witty like “WASH ME” or “HONK AT ME”. Of course some others out there may recall something a bit more dirty but let’s save that thought for now.

Artist Scott Wade has posted a gallery on his site of just that – Dirty Car Art. I’m most impressed by the level of detail that he’s able to achieve. A nice little video can be seen on Yahoo!
