Kindle iPhone app

Kindle iPhoneKindle - A slick hand-held book reading device by Amazon –  was all the buzz in the book publishing world when it was released back in November, 2007. Amazon was by no means the first to release a hand-held portable book reader far as technology was concerned. Others were first but the Kindle was the first to reach mass appeal. For starters it was deployed on the oldest and best known online book store. Surely this fact alone helped propel the Kindle to where it is today.

In February, 2009 Amazon released the much improved Kindle 2 which boasts more storage and a slimmer curvier design. Although I had always admired the Kindle from afar, it didn’t really seem practical for me to carry yet another device with me.

Fast forward to 2009 when Amazon released a Kindle app for iPhone (Also for iTouch).  Free to download, the  Kindle iPhone app is phenomenal!  At first I wasn’t sure if I would like it or not. However, after reading two pages of “The Four Hour Work Week” I was hooked. There is a control to vary the font size which is a rather well thought out feature. I started out with the smallest font size. After my eyes grew tired, I increased the font size. Nice! And with over 240,000 books to choose from, you can’t go wrong.

Since I already had an Amazon account, I was able to quickly download my first book. I attribute the success if the Kindle to the Amazon store. Think about it, how many people have an account there. Exactly. Much like Apple has done with the App Store for iPhone, Amazon has built it’s own content delivery system for the kindle. The difference is that people don’t have to learn something new or log into a new site. There is something to be said about instant gratification.

If you own an iPhone or a iTouch and you’re an avid reader, I strongly recommend this app!
