In Honda’s new Super Bowl commercial, Matthew Broderick revamps one of his most famous roles – Ferris Bueller – in the latest commercial for the all new redesigned Honda CR-V. According to the press release:

The new Honda CR-V commercial features Matthew Broderick as himself, skipping out on a day of acting work and living it up in his all-new CR-V. Relive movie history with Honda’s fresh twist and wonderful homage to this ’80s classic.

I’ve always been a big Ferris fan and even imagined what a sequel might look like here: Ferris Bueller’s Next Day Off.

Broderick ends the spot with the classic movie quote – Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it. Another surprise at the very end of the spot stays true to the original movie as well. A nice touch.

Attention geeks everywhere!

Check the new Adidas Star Wars Collection. Now you can dress up that Darth Vader costume with the real deal – official Adidas Star Wars shoes. You will be the envy of the neighborhood. Imagine the possibilites … Dressing up like Chewbacca and donning a pair of Stormtrooper specials. Pretty slick, indeed.

When I first saw this collection, I almost thought I had been punked. I checked the URL and sure enough it was Adidas.com. Growing up watching the first Star Wars movies, I imagined that in 2010 we would be zooming around in flying machines circling monstrous buildings. Although that didn’t happen, the Official Adidas Star Wars collection did. My questions is, “Why did it take 33 years?”

BakerTweet is a novel idea. Here’s the description from BakerTweet.com:

BakerTweet is a way for busy bakers to tell the world that something hot and fresh has just come out of the oven. It’s as simple as turning the dial and hitting the button. All of the baker’s followers get a Twitter alert to tell them that it’s bun-time. Or bread time. Or whatever.

What a great idea for a local bakery to alert the neighborhood what is hot and fresh out of the oven. Nothing better than waking up, checking your tweets and knowing you can head around the corner for some hot cinnamon buns. Mmmm Mmmm good!

Check out the tweets from the Albion Cafe on Boundary Street in Shoreditch, London. Follow them here: @albionsoven.

Acceptable losses
Mixed media
16 x 13.5 inches diameter
2008

The above piece entitled “Acceptable losses” is the amazing miniature work of Thomas Doyle. He creates beautiful little worlds sculpted in 1:43 scale and smaller. From the statement on his site:

The pieces’ radically reduced scales evoke feelings of omnipotence—as well as the visceral sensation of unbidden memory recall. Hovering above the glass, the viewer approaches these worlds as an all-seeing eye, looking down upon landscapes that dwarf and threaten the figures within.

Conversely, the private intensity of moments rendered in such a small scale draws the viewer in, allowing for the intimacy one might feel peering into a museum display case or dollhouse. Though surrounded by chaos, hazard, and longing, the figures’ faces betray little emotion, inviting viewers to lose themselves in these crucibles—and in the jumble of feelings and memories they elicit.

The glass itself contains and compresses the world within it, seeming to suspend time itself—with all its accompanying anguish, fear, and bliss. By sealing the works in this fashion, I hope to distill the debris of human experience down to single, fragile moments. Like blackboxes bobbing in the flotsam, these works wait for discovery, each an indelible record of human memory.
