The basic premise of SendMeSomething.org is to do just that. You send a self addressed envelope to the address listed on the site and they will send you something.  According to the FAQs on SendMeSomething, you probably won’t receive anything of any monetary value. Nor will they send you something evil like cat vomit. It’s a surprise!

Their goal is to have it back to you in 2 -3 weeks. They’ll even send you something even if you live outside of the United States provided that you put enough postage on it. The people behind SendMeSomething claim it’s a self funded project and fairly inexpensive to administer since the items they send are of little monetary value and the postage is pre-paid.

Stalin routinely removed his enemies from photographs. In this photograph a commissar was removed from the original photograph after falling out of favor with Stalin.
